George W. Bush loved to mention how much he hated greens, saying: “I do not like broccoli. And I haven’t liked it since I was a little kid and my mother made me eat it”.

Donald Trump, a McDonald’s fan if there ever was one, is not known for his love of greens either. Michelle Obama, on the other hand, grew organic vegetables in the White House’s garden. Is that a coincidence, or is there such a thing as Republican or Democrat food?

Most of you would probably argue that Republicans like barbecue and Democrats love their Green Goddess salad, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg lettuce. Cookingwithcongress offers a glimpse into Kamala Harris and Donald Trump‘s diet, amongst other congressmen from both parties. Between these two, who is more likely to drink Diet Coke for breakfast, and who eats a raisin bran muffin with almond milk?  You got it right if you answered Trump (Diet Coke) and Harris(Raisin Bran). The only craving both candidates share is for Nacho Cheese Doritos, a fast-food white flag if you will.

The presidential campaign is also telling us what both parties like to eat.  The Washington Post and GrubHub, a food delivery app, analyzed over 21,000 receipts from 500 restaurants to see where they spent the most. In general, Republicans ordered McDonald’s 28 times more than Democrats, especially Big Mack and Egg McMuffins, and spent over 200K at Chick-fil-A, an Atlanta-based food chain with a Christian background.

It appears that Democrats don’t like fast food as much. Panera Bread is their go-to fast food chain, and on the night Joe Biden endorsed Kamala for president, Harris made a late-night order at Andy’s Pizza in D.C.

What about a cup of Joe?

Two-thirds of all Democrats prefer Starbucks coffee, while Republicans choose Dunkin Donuts instead

Back to CookingwithCongress. Writer and storyteller Bennet Rea “took it upon himself to eat like a Democrat (Kamala) and a Republican (Trump)”. After five days of Trump eating, he said his body feels like a ” bag of hammers” and that he craves greens. He describes it as the worst presidential diet since Richard Nixon (Who was famous for eating cottage cheese topped with ketchup). Harris’s diet included Gumbo stew and curd rice for lunch, which made him happy.

According to GrubHub, Republicans love barbecue twice as much, while Democrats go for diversity: they like Mexican, Spanish, and Chinese food.

Is there something, anything, Democrats and Republicans can agree on, Besides Nacho Cheese Doritos? Maybe Bagels. 34% of both sides picked Bagel as their favorite morning nash. Finally, an optimistic fact if you like- both sides just lovvveee American food.

There is enough food for everyone, so eat what makes you happy, as long as we don’t eat one another.
